Beebe Open 2007

What do you do when your best player doesn’t show up for the tournament? Suck it up and call a brother for some help.

2007 won’t be placed in the pantheon of previous sterling Beebe performances for the Okemos squad, but it’ll certainly be remembered as one of the gutsiest. When calls to team anchor Brian Lewis went to voicemail 20 minutes after the scheduled 1pm start, team Captain Ron Dooley called upon Brian’s brother Brad Lewis to fill in. Not only did Brad find the team on the second shot of the day, he contributed beautiful drives and shots all day and helped us grind out a respectable 5 under par.

While the goal in recent years has been to win the title outright, there usually is some friendly wagering between our head to head opponents. This year we experienced an incredible finished as the Kool Breeze drained a 170 yard approach on the final hole to seemingly guarantee a tie, possibly a win for the Haslett crew. Then super sub Phat Lew drained a bending downhill 35 footer to win it for the Chieftain squad.
