They also offer a used car service that can help you find out how much to pay for a used car, or how for how much you can get for your old beaten up, reeky, dip-stained sled via sale or trade.

Another tool you can use to nail down the price is edmunds.com or kbb.com.  I used Edmunds and it worked out pretty well.  The site, which is free, asks for your contact info including your zip code, and of course the make, model and extras you want.  Then it will identify a list of local dealers.  You simply indicate the dealers from which you'd like to receive a quote.  The site then blasts out emails to the local dealerships.  My experience was pretty good: I requested quotes from 3 local Honda dealerships.  Within a few hours I received 3 reponses:

- One dealer responded back with a quote via email.  (It was a good one).

- One dealer responded with the name of their rep, and a friendly interest to do business.  I emailed this guy back requesting a quote and got one (their special internet price) immediately.

- One dealership refused to respond.

Both quotes received were pretty well under MSRP for a car that is in fairly high demand.  I used this, along with the CR New Car report to identify a price to start negotiations.  When you are getting close to a price make sure you start asking for the out-the-door price (the bottom line on the invoice including tax, title, and any other weasel fees).  Then I worked two sales reps against each other at dealerships within 20 miles of each other.  One tip from an expert salesman (Awes II): the salesman work off information - they have techniques to get this out of you.  If they want information from you, make sure you are getting something in return.

Final piece of advice. Forget all of the above and call your cousin Rocco to get the 'A' plan price.
