SALINE, MICHIGAN SEPTEMBER 30, 2005
Everyone has an opinion. How good is State?
How bad is Michigan? Is everyone overreacting? Is Carr
on his last leg? Is John L Smith finally meeting expectations?
I don't like Blue's chances,
unless... Although I can't complain too much about our running game
lately, I still think Blue is a different team with Hart on the
field. Without Hart to keep our offense on the field, it could be a
bloodbath. Our D-linemen were sucking wind towards the end of the
Wisc game yesterday. They were worthless and weak.

It's raining, it's pouring,
Lloyd's offense is boring

As you know, I tend to wear a very
pessimistic pair of green colored glasses. But I just can't see
State losing this one. The sting from last year's game should be a
huge motivating factor. I'm going to say State wins, 34-17. At least
if Michigan loses, they can blame the loss on the NCAA (Herrmann
laid the groundwork for the excuse on M Replay). Too bad we no
longer have crowned field. :)

State will win, Michigan is weak.
Michigan will score 3 touchdowns and Michigan State will score 5.

I see
the Spartans offense continue to roll and I think for once Carr will
open things up and we will have a good old shootout, he is my nugget
of the week..... the team that rushes for more yards will LOSE!
Final Score MSU-34 U-M 27

I am still in shock over being 2
and 2. I think for the team they have to get over it. That is key.
Come out fired up with something to prove. Stanton is unreal.
Michigan's db's worry me. I think the line and backers will be okay.
They need to keep MSU off guard. As far as the O goes. A healthy
Mike Hart will help. The loss of Long and Kolo has really killed us.
I think Manningham has to have a big game to free up room for
Breaston. Everyone has to produce. This one worries me, but we
must have this game.

All this talk about
Michigan having a down year is a bit premature in my
book. Sure, Chad Henne has struggled a bit, but the
reality is that M is still just a couple turnovers
away from a perfect record in its own right. We're
going to see a very focused Michigan team on Saturday
after what must have been the most intense week of
practices in Lloyd Carr's career.
My two keys for
Michigan are 1) efficient, ball control offense and 2)
controlling MSU's rushing game.
Michigan can't afford
to get into a shoot-out with one of the country's best
offenses. M needs sustained drives (short passes to
the flats and a healthy dose of Mike Hart) to chew up
the clock and keep the Spartan offense off the field.
I expect M will be successful offensively over the
course of the game but I wouldn't be surprised to see
Matt Gutierrez calling signals before the half if Chad
Henne struggles early.
Equally as important
is to keep State's offense in check by controlling
Jason Teague and Javon Ringer. DeAndra Cobb rushed
for 218 yards on M's defense in last year's epic
shoot-out and that really opened up the passing
lanes. That can't happen again this year or Stanton
will pick apart M's inexperienced secondary. The
biggest question mark is whether or not M has the
speed at linebacker and on the defensive line to
contain outside the tackles. We haven't seen that
yet, but I expect an intense defensive effort from Jim
Herman's crew.
At the end of the day,
I see the Sparty's crumbling under the pressure of
being favored against their biggest rival, while Big
Blue will prove, once again, that the balance of
football power remains in Ann Arbor.
Michigan 31, MSU 27

M comes out like a well-oiled
machine and gets a little help from John L who, intending to show up
ex-MSU assistant and current Michigan defensive line coach Steve
Stripling, calls one too many quarterback draws. In a near replay of
last-year's dramatic turn of events, Drew Stanton gets squished by
Gabe Watson like a flaming poop sack on your neighbor's front porch
and the Sparty's are forced to tough it out with the local Pop
Warner signal caller under center. Big Blue will handle the victory
with more class than this take and
will not plant any flags nor any
other school insignia on the field after the win. M 30, MSU 21
